Feelin' Hot, Hot, HOT!!!

05-18-2012

It is going to be windy and HOT for the next couple of days, with highs near 90. Remember Summer? Yep, for the next 2 days we get to enjoy it, unlike the Winter that never was. Make sure to drink lots of water, take advantage of the shade, and take it easy as we aren't used to these temps yet.

Northwoods Cinema is a great place to cool down this weekend, new shows are opening, like the Dictator, and Battleship. Avengers, Dark Shadows, as well as Hunger Games are still there. Don't forget the popcorn!

We will mourn the passing of Donna Summer yesterday, she was 63 and succumbed to cancer. What is your favorite song by the Queen of DIsco? I don't know if I can pick just one, her voice is just phenomenal.

As you head out into your weekend don't forget to bring the Home of the True Oldies with you!!! You can hear us on the radio dial, 92.1, or listen online, streaming live at www.kreu92.com.

Thanks for listening!!

Mama's Day

05-10-2012

Mother's Day has been around since the earlier part of the 1900's, in fact, longer than Father's Day. Hmmm, guess mothers really are important! Of course I figured that out a long time ago, when my mom took care of me when I was sick, comforted me when I was going through my teenage angst, and then was there for me when I became a mother. This Sunday is Mother's Day, help a mother celebrate, whether she is your mom by birth, by choice, or just by being around like a mother would be. (Don't forget the single dads out there either)

Looks like this weekend will be a really good weekend, slight chance for rain on Friday, but otherwise nice and sunny! We are going to be spending some time outside, running around and getting some Vitamin D. This forecast sure makes up for the rain that we got all last weekend and earlier this week. I love getting out in the sun, just makes the day so much better. I have to mention that I am more willing to clean my house if I can open my windows to let in fresh air too!

Saturday night is the Prom for Owatonna, so I think we are going to go watch the promenade. I like to see the kids all dressed up in their formals, and know that they probably have much better fashion sense than I did when I went to prom, 20 years ago. :) Have fun at the Prom all who are attending this weekend, and be safe.

So far, so good as far as the Vikings stadium goes. The Vikings are willing to pay more than they had originally thought, which means that unless something real catastrophic happens, Governor Dayton will hopefully have a bill on his desk this week. Don and I are really hoping that this works out, as there is a 50 year history of the Vikings in MN! Well that, and he bleeds purple and will sit in a corner and cry, holding his jerseys, if the Vikings leave.

Enjoy your weekend!!! Stay tuned for the best Oldies!

Happy Cinco de Mayo....

05-04-2012

Or maybe that should be Feliz Cinco de Mayo? I don't remember enough from my high school Spanish classes to know the proper way to greet someone on Cinco de Mayo. I just know I enjoy the holiday, it is a perfect excuse to enjoy some awesome Mexican food. :) I absolutely love the shredded beef with all of the seasonings, hamburger just won't cut it. Pile on the salsa too, yum. Now I'm getting hungry.

Lots of good stuff happening this weekend; The Waseca High School Choir is having their Variety Show 2012 this weekend, starting tonight at the Central Intermediate School. Show starts at 7:30 on both the 4th and 5th. The seniors are showcasing their talents with solos, and will be performing in 2 different sets. You can get tickets at Waseca Music, and there is a limited supply.

From the Heart Run is this weekend, the festivities start this evening with a dinner, auction, and bone marrow registry. Tomorrow is the run, and for more information you check out their website, www.fromtheheartrun.com.

The Avengers opens tonight, looks like it should be a VERY good movie. Don wants to see it, I may go see it too, it sure looks like it will be full of action. Sometimes that's all a person needs, to see some car chases, explosions, and buildings falling down, as a great escape.

The Blessing of the Bikes is this weekend as well, this is the 16th Annual event. Daybreak Community Church hosts this wonderful event, and they are offering a free lunch and live music this year. I have not made it to the actual Blessing yet, although I did drive past last year. If you like bikes, this is definitely the event to go to. Bikes are far as the eye can see, or something very close to that. Their website is www.daybreakcommunitychurch.org.

Have a Great Weekend and May the 4th Be With You!

Prom Season!

04-25-2012

It's Prom Season here in Southern MN, Waseca has their prom this weekend. It should be an awesome night for all those young adults who are getting all dressed up in their formal wear, and going to dinners and then to dance the night away. All of the prom preparations remind me of my Junior Prom, since I didn't go to my Senior Prom. At that time the movie "Ghost" was huge, so the theme song for the prom was "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers. I had a great time, got to spend the night with all of my friends dancing and joking around. The after-prom party was held at the Mall, and they had it set up like a casino, so we got to "gamble" for some pretty cool prizes. Don went to both his Jr and Sr Proms, and he can remember the song to his Sr Prom, "Heaven" by Bryan Adams. Good song choice there as well. It seems like just yesterday that I was getting ready for prom, getting my hair done, putting on the dress (it was pink) and waiting for my date to give me my corsage. Now, it's not too many years away and I may be getting my own daughter ready for prom.

If you are not going to prom, there are some other options for entertainment this weekend. The Steele County Historical Society is having their grand opening of the new History Center, with the ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow at 10a.m. The History Center is at 1700 Austin Road, in Owatonna. As well as the grand opening, there is an Art Auction on Friday, with both silent and live auctions happening. The Art Auction starts at 6:30 pm and you can get tickets at Kottke's, SCHS, TriM Graphics, First National Bank in Ellendale, and Johnson & Doerhoefer in Blooming Prairie. Tickets are available as advance sales only. the website is www.steelecohistoricalsociety.org.

The weather may be a bit cooler, but, will still be decent for possibly getting outside and enjoying the Spring we are having so far.

Feel free to share your prom stories below.

Thanks for listening!

April Showers Bring May Flowers....

04-19-2012

It has been pretty windy and rainy lately, perhaps we are now making up for having no snow to speak of all Winter. I guess it doesn't matter what the reason is, we are loving the rain. I have to say, I love MN no matter the season, because I like to see all of the seasons.

This weekend don't miss the Night of Knights auction and benefit for St Mary's School in Owatonna. This is a 21 and over event, and it only happens once a year. Saturday, April 21st is the night this year. To see what is available for the auctions and for all other information, go to www.nightofknights.com.

It looks to be a decent weekend, perfect for grilling out. I can't wait, I absolutely love grilling, especially that first time. It always tastes so much better than you remember. We do a lot of grilling over the Spring and Summer, and last year grilled a lot later than usual.

If you are planning to get married, and want to leave the planning to us here at KOWZ and KRUE radio, send us an essay of 100 words or less to wedding@kowzonline.com telling us why you should be the next couple to be married at the Pepsi Next Wedding with the Stars!!

This weekend may be a good weekend to check out the movies as well. Go to Northwoods Cinema on Allan Ave. in Owatonna, they have the BEST popcorn to enjoy with your movie. For information on showtimes and the movies playing, go to www.cectheatres.com.

Friday is our Free Music Friday, call our studio line at 444-0167 or leave your request on our Facebook page!
